Pickford House

FOOD AND WINE

KEN'S passion for wine verges on being an obsession, He sees it as a subject of unending interest not only in its drinking but also in the combination of grapes and the history of wine.

At PICKFORD HOUSE you will find something like a hundred different wines on the wine list. There are plenty of attractive whites to choose from, mostly French but with a sprinkling from the New World and South America. But it's the red wine that really touches Ken's heart. There are 30 clarets on the list, everday drinking at one end and the likes of Angludet and Leoville Barton at the other. Burgundy plays an increasing part now in the list because of Ken and Angela's participation in the Cousinerie de Bourgogne and because of their zeal and enthusiasm for the cause.

That is only part of the offerings. Other areas of France are well represented as is Australia, South Africa and Spain to mention a few. Hopefully there is something for every taste.

ANGELA meanwhile prides herself on providing well balanced meals using the freshest and seasonal ingredients. "Buy fresh and cook fresh" has always been her motto along with her self induced challenge that visitors returning should always have new dishes and longer-stay visitors will not get the same dish repeated whether they stay one week or one month.

Her cuisine is French based but dishes from Spain and Italy also play an important part as these are countries in which she has worked. Her ability to put vegetables and spices together has come from being given a free reign to produce vegetarian dishes on a regular basis.

Angela loves cheese and enjoys producing different cheeseboards and has a keen interest in the making and history of cheese. She is often invited to give Cookery demonstrations to various groups which extends her repertoire and reading of her subject.
