BECKINGTON was mentioned in the Domesday Book and there are still some families living in the village whose ancestry virtually dates back to those days. Through the ages it has been well endowed with a church, abbey, castle and school all at the southern end of the village. At its height it was a famous woollen village. Nowadays the village has a mixture of old and new houses but the age of the village is still dominant as you drive or walk through. It still retains its church, the abbey offering afternoon Sunday concerts in the winter, the castle now the headquarters of a prestigious technology company and the school thriving with youngsters. There are also two pubs - the Foresters and the Woolpack, which has a restaurant, catering for all parts of the community. The march of time has seen the demise of the grocers and post office in recent years but the gift shop still continues as does the local garage. A large Texaco garage with a shop is located on the nearby A36 roundabout.
"the highest compliment I can pay is that we will recommend you to our friends"
"one of the most enjoyable weekend breaks we have spent as a group of eight friends; superlative food"
"it was beyond praise - a real holiday - just what we needed"
"your excellent hospitality and ability for us all to socialise was only surpassed by the beautiful food. The pinnacle of my trip"
"we have beaten a track back to your front door! The kitchen yielded its wanted miracles, the cellar its expected treasures even if some were to be found under the floorboards!"
