All food at Pickford House is prepared by your hostess ANGELA who prides herself on offering the best available dishes using the freshest ingredients.
Angela spent many years entertaining top Service and Commercial personnel and subsequently embarked upon a period of study in French and Italian cookery culminating in a course at the Cordon Bleu school in London.
Immediately afterwards she spent some years teaching French Cookery and Entertaining Cookery at Adult Education classes. Travel and constant research into the history of food have provided great depth in her awareness and approach to changing tastes.
Her work has involved her in outside catering for many different types of functions for top Companies and various functions involving members of the Royal Family. She has also often been invited to speak and demonstrate on various aspects of cookery at local Womens Groups and Wine circles.
Everyday Angela offers a different three course meal which is excellent value for money. She buys fresh fruit and vegetables every day and the meat and fish are delivered regularly twice a week and sometimes more often depending upon demand.
In order to keep the price as realistic as possible it is essential that she offers a "pot luck" menu which sometimes also offers a choice but all guests are asked to express their dislikes so that she avoids them.
Sometimes guests request special anniversary meals or groups of friends take over the house for a gourmet weekend. On these occasions a full range of dishes are offered beforehand and guests select their choice sometimes creating their own menu and making a decision on the night or a set menu for the occasion. A "pot luck" menu often includes dishes from the full menu and so an example could be:
Her cuisine also caters for vegetarians and there is a large selection of vegetarian dishes in Angela's repotoire.
Comments from guests have included "Accommodation and dinner beyond praise. Remarkable value, especially the evening meal and meals superb".
Pickford House boasts a fine selection of wines hand chosen by Ken Pritchard. A lifetime of research and on location testing have gone into the development of our current cellars, we feel sure you will not leave disappointed. The resident keeper of the cellar is always on hand to offer advice or information about any of our wines.
